Walking Out into the Sunshine is the personal story of a Palestinian born in Haifa in1935. As a result of the Israeli/Palestinian war of 1948, he and his family became refugees in Tyre, Lebanon. Later, he immigrated to the United States where he received a PhD in theoretical physics and taught, as a university professor, for more than three decades. The story provides an eyewitness account of Middle Eastern history, politics, religions, inter-community relations, economics, refugee status, education, immigration, inner conflicts, friendships, family life, and love in Arab and American cultures.
The narrative offers the reader unique insights into the human condition. It points to steps, through understanding, toward resolving conflicts, and realizing peace.

The author does a great job of presenting Arab/Palestinian life style before all the trouble began. We don't get to hear the 'other side' of the story very much these days. This is a story of someone who always moves forward no matter what is placed in his way. He never forgets what he left behind as well. He could have just as easily came from Ireland or Vietnam. Walking Out into the Sunshine Recollections and ReflectionsA Palestinian Personal Experience eBook Ghazi Hassoun Reviews
Wanted to understand a different view on the Israel and Arab issues. Well written book. Really enjoyed reading it. Thanks, George
A personal biography that offers the readers a different perspective on the Palestinian point of view. Very warm, funny and touching life story.
This is a very interesting book starting out from the child's experience growing up in Palestine before the war through he and his family's growth and achievements to becoming a Professor Emeritus of Physics in the US. It sheds light on everyday living, struggles and joys. It is a wonderfully written, narrative which has opened my eyes to many new thoughts and experiences. I would definitely recommend it.
It is very slow with many unneeded details. There is little flow or storyline. It needs good editing.
However I did learn about Middle East history from the 1930-1960s, information I never got in high sclool or college.
Perspective in the Epilogue should have also been woven into the story's body.
